how adorable is this collection of BabyLit board books by jennifer adams & alison oliver? turning a literary classic into a tale for your toddler using beautiful illustrations. they're going to look adorable on my girls' book ledges in their new room!

check out these fantastic organizational ideas for your office using tension rods, labels, baskets, and folders. i'm on a quest to find super short tension rods so i can reorganize my billy bookcases in my office, amongst other nooks and crannies in our home.

i'm stocking up on activities for my 4 year old in preparation for baby's arrival. i ordered H this fingerprint drawing book by ed emberley and picked up a washable melissa and doug stamp pad set from indigo. the designs are simple and oh so cute. she is going to have a blast with this book!

i'm looking forward to transforming my wardrobe this Spring after baby arrives. after little h, i didn't get much of a chance to get into a groove... i became pregnant again when she was just shy of 7 months. i am loving... these shoes, this jacket, this cardi and this dress! as many moms can relate, i've lost much of my fashion sense since having kids and one of my resolutions to myself is to gain it back!

{i love} pumpkin cookies.

thanksgiving and halloween have come and gone, but my craving for all things pumpkin remains. my sister-in-law shared this recipe on our family recipe blog and they've become Hannah and my most favourite cookies.

we're experiencing frigid temps here in alberta which increases my hankering for baking tasty treats. i baked another batch last night! it's a quick and easy recipe, and partnered with your favourite tea or coffee, even better. enjoy!

the cookies.
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup pumpkin
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

preheat oven to 350*.
beat sugar and butter until well blended.
beat in pumpkin, egg and vanilla.
combine dry ingredients. mix in gradually.

scoop onto parchment covered pan.

bake for 12-15 min. until edges are firm.
drizzle glaze over cookies while they're still warm.

the glaze.
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
3 tbsp. milk
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1 tsp. vanilla

beat together until smooth.

yummers!

since late november, i've shifted my beautiful collection of penguin classics to my office bookshelves, and replaced them with a giant stack of children's books. in our family, it's important to be surrounded by story books of all kinds, shapes and sizes. and when they're sitting in the middle of the room, it's hard not to pick a few up each day and share a story.

for Christmas, hazel received some new hardcovers from her grandma. while hazel is only 15 months old, she LOVES books. she'll sit quietly in the playroom at the table flipping through picture books, especially ones filled with animals. but, her most favourite storybooks are these two by leah wilcox. i think my husband and i equally enjoy them. they're a quirky twist on two classic fairytales...

i miss blogging! sitting at my desk is uncomfy these days to say the least... i only have 4 weeks to go until we meet baby boy h. that is, if i go the distance! i'm excited to finally share my things i love post with you... i've had it started for over a week!

hazel's nursery is in the middle of a major transformation. somedays when i put her down to nap, she must wonder where she is! many of the goodies we've added to baby's room are made with love by mommy or grandma hollie. we are loving how it's taking shape and cannot wait for the big reveal in the next few weeks.

with a new year comes a list of resolutions and goals, making to-do lists a little longer and lofty. i am loving this fab freebie printable i stumbled upon through pinterest. i've printed a stack of them, popped them on a clipboard from the dollar store, and they'll sit atop my kitchen island, hopefully increasing motivation to get it all done around here!

with baby due to arrive in mid-february, we've gotten a jump start on H's preschool Valentines. this year, after having her pick from a few ideas, we're running with the lolly self portrait cards. a few other favourites included the you make my heart bounce bouncy ball treat and the i'm bananas for you candy treat.

last year we made these... sweet treats {with a free printable!} , a set of felt heart hair clips, and a few heart shaped crayons {with a free printable!}

do you love monograms as much as i do? hop on over to linen & thread for some fantastic ideas on how you can decorate and personalize your home with monograms. my most favourites are the initials for each grandchild bordering the playroom, and a beautifully DIY'd oversized monogram gracing a master bedroom.

i haven't held back this pregnancy with my indulgence of all things sweet. i've been trying my hardest to avoid the chocolate and dip into a more healthy snack. 9 times out of 10 i'm unsuccessful, however, i did bake this deliciously fluffy lemon-blueberry yogurt loaf and it was a hit!

while we were in california this november to celebrate a beautiful American Thanksgiving ... we spent our last day at The Grove and the Santa Monica Pier. It was a real treat. we did a bit of shopping, celebrity sighting, munching on tasty treats, rode the ferris wheel over the ocean and best of all, my girls snuck in their visit to Santa Clause. who would have thought he'd be there the same day we would?

to think last Christmas, we had a little 3 month old all snuggled up, being passed back and forth from guest to guest. and this year, she's a bouncing 15 month old, dancing to carols with her sister, eating an endless amount of cookies, learning the magic of Christmas, and anxiously awaiting to tackle the pile of gifts under the tree. and now, we're excitedly awaiting another arrival only 8 short weeks away.

our family is so blessed.

we have health and happiness and you cannot ask for much more than that.

i read a quote on pinterest the other afternoon and it stuck with me. i'll take it with me to 2012.

i wish you and yours a very happy holiday season.

have you seen chloe's adorable DIY'd costume closet transformed from an old dresser into a magnificient cubby of creativity? i would love to design something similar for my babies playroom downstairs. my husband's list is growing daily and the hunt is on to find the perfect second hand piece.

if you're in search of some easy dinner inspiration, check out my recently pinned meal additions. this past week we dined on tomato tortellini soup, a twice baked potato casserole, over-stuffed stromboli, and honey chicken. all of which were delish... but the honey chicken recipe is to die for!

our advent calendar is providing us with endless activities this month. yesterday we built our gingerbread house and today we're decorating with handmade snowflakes. you can master the art of trimming a perfect snowflake by following this tutorial.

edieslab is a newly discovered shoppe on etsy, feeding my mini obsession for monograms. how many h's are too many h's? i'm still trying to figure out where i could tuck this beauty!

both babies have been under the weather this week

which has been tough on our household...

but at the same time, has given us ample time to accomplish a lot indoors.

today i spent a good portion of my day baking.

i've been sewing projects for little man's new nursery and the girls' room.

and finally in the midst of addressing our holiday cards.

my procrastination of our cards this year was doused by the arrival of a couple from family and friends earlier this week.

i crafted a handy holiday wreath to display our cards with odds and ends i had in my craft bin. i really love how it turned out.

all you need is...

1. branch wreath, or an embroidery hoop, or any wreath will do

{i found mine in a michaels clearance bin for $1.99}

2. clothespins, covered in festive paper or glitter

3. ribbon for hanging

{my velvet candy cane ribbon was found at dollarama, $2 for 6 metres!}

4. a hot glue gun

all you need to do is...

1. glue your clothespins equal distance apart around the wreath, alternating direction so that every other one opens to the middle or outside of wreath

2. remember to leave a space open at the top of your wreath for your ribbon

3. wrap your ribbon through and hang on a door, mirror, wall or window

4. pin your collection of holiday cards!

holidays are so much fun with my little 4 year old.

december is a month full of decorating, crafting, baking...

and, of course, learning of the true meaning.

our advent calendar has been providing us with endless activities.

and Elfie has been up to his regular shenanigans this year.

the curiosity of a 4 year old is incredible. it makes holidays all the more fun.

she's full of questions and demands answers. some of which i've had to be extremely inventive.

and if i can't satisfy, she's been writing her fair share of letters to the big guy to ask him directly.

the season of giving.

Christmas Cheer printable art by announced design

it is always better to give than to receive.

throughout the year, we've been encouraging H to be caring and giving towards others. since she's only 4, this mostly includes her preschool class, teachers, and her swim class. she loves to craft, paint pictures, and create special treasures. nearly each day we go out, she has something tucked into her backpack for someone - usually a different friend or teacher each day. she received her very first picture back from a classmate on wednesday after we returned from our vacation. she was beaming.

around holiday time, it's important for us to deliver bundles of food to the food bank bins at our local grocery store... shovel walkways for our entire block... and this morning we delivered tim horton's to a few sets of neighbours while we were experiencing a neighborhood power outage.

whether it's popping out to deliver a dessert to a neighbour or paying for the next coffee in line, the little things matter.

that's why i fell in love with this blog post from last December, originally pinned by one of my sister-in-laws. Each day of Advent, her family performed one random act of kindness, making the Christmas season about loving others. i adore the concept, her ideas for random acts, and purely just the principle and meaning of it all.

maybe it's the emotional pregnancy or just simply the time of year, but i hope you find this post as inspiring as i did. 24 daily acts might be too much for some to manage, but even one random act WILL make a difference.

{i craft} DIY Advent calendar.

a day late but our new Advent Calendar was hung late last night!

i fell in love with the handmade simplicity of the Advent calendars on Rambling Renovators and Linday's blog using the little cotton drawstring bags. i adore both of these custom creations using stamps and iron on transfer paper.

my itty bitty 4x6 drawstring bags are from the penny paper co. 10 for $5 you can't go wrong! they're perfect for little goodies. i picked up a pack of iron on transfer paper from Michaels and designed a set of grey numbers in Illustrator and printed them on my ink jet {remember when you're printing text or numbers, you have to print the characters backwards!} i trimmed each number and ironed them on each bag.

our Advent bags are filled with a set of tiny wooden ornaments passed down from my mom for the girls to hang on their own little tree in their playroom. and nearly each bag has a fun holiday activity. i was excited to discover a cute debbie travis pom pom garland at Canadian Tire for $3.99 - perfect for hanging each bag and keeping them in place.

{i love} my first luxe box.

we arrived home yesterday from a long vacation to California.

we celebrated Thanksgiving with my hub's entire family.

it was fun and filling! 15 little cousins 10 and under... babies everywhere!

it's always great to getaway but oh so nice to be back to the comforts of home.

my girls were overjoyed to see their toys, stuffies... and mostly their cozy beds.

our mailbox was overfilled with packages and mail...

whilst we were away, my first luxe box from loose button arrived!

i was excited to tear into it... but admittedly it was done very slowly. the packaging was perfectly pretty... even topped off with a label that said "made for sarah".

inside were deluxe size samples including a benefit facial cream, lise watier plumping gloss, olay regenerist wrinkle complex, mereadesso face and neck toning gel, essie nail polish {in a beautiful shade}, and a sample of teopia cactus fig tea. how lovely. i can't wait to see what's inside next month!

at last, our terrarium is one step closer to completion!

i had purchased an awesome oversized terrarium jar from Superstore quite some time ago for a steal at $11. and quickly ordered a bundle of adorable clay mushrooms from etsy. we filled the bottom with 4 bags of decorative rocks from the dollar store. who would have thought finding the right moss would be so tough? we searched greenhouses all summer long. finally, during a rare visit to the mall, we popped into crate and barrel to have a peek at their holiday collection and they were selling bags of terrarium moss for $9.99. Perfect.

last on our list is to order a cute little gnome from etsy that can make his home in this cushy corner... and maybe we'll have to decorate the interior a wee tiny bit for the holiday season! my oldest daughter LOVES it and imagines a family of Smurfs live inside the mushrooms.

i've began collecting printable holiday tags early this year. here's one of my favourite free bunches from jones design company. Christmas goodies week starts monday on her blog so be sure to check back for more happy holiday printables. {and if you're seeking more creative inspiration, search through her fab list of project tutorials}

pinterest is my go-to for weekly menu planning. i've began an "easy dinners" pinboard and this past week, we gave brown sugar and balsamic glazed pork loin, tortellini with balsamic brown butter, and spicy honey chicken a try. all will be making a regular appearance in our monthly meals. {and all took less than 20 minutes to prep!}

i love our new customized labels from the penny paper co. they're tucked into my mini mailing station along with a stock supply of stamps, envelopes, and stickers. if you haven't yet visited, the penny paper co. has an adorable collection of customizable art prints, birth announcements, stationary, and holiday cards. my fave new category is their accessories. i think i'll be ordering a set of white striped bitty bags this weekend. who knows what i'll do with them but they're certainly cute!

my friend morgan over at monpetitamour and i finally had a long overdue thrifting date one afternoon. i hadn't escaped without the girls in awhile and it was certainly nice to spend time with her and her adorable boy.

she took me to a little place called mcc thrift which, if you enter with the right creative mind, is packed full of hidden treasures to transform into your own beauties.

i found an old globe perfect for baby boy's nursery along with some wooden beads to tuck into an old mason jar. for my office, another vintage reader's digest to add to my growing collection.

i've visited mcc once since, spending $3.20 on some second hand fabrics, wool felts, embroidery thread, and embroidery hoop. {and another vintage winter themed reader's digest for a whopping 50 cents!} can't wait to share what i create!

nood design offers a mix of modern and retro pieces and accessories. i'm a fan of their selection, quality, and prices. my office is now host to the trestle desk and the white fibreglass armchair with walnut legs. my most recent object of desire is the tall color block drawer cabinet from their new stash collection. perhaps with our piggy bank profit from our garage sale this weekend, we can pick one up and put it... umm, perhaps in the new nursery or guest room!

{i craft} handmade dresses.

while we visited california early this summer, i spent time with my mother-in-law in her heavenly quilting and sewing escape. the room, machines, fabrics, threads, and each and every detail is dreamy. her talent, incredible.

one of my projects on the list was to sew dresses for the girls. i chose a pinafore dress from making children's clothes by emma hardy. it was my very first time working with a pattern, and modifying the pattern to fit both my girls. for hazel's dress, i used another simply designed 12 month size dress from carter's and hannah's size was drawn from the pattern.

it was a little tough to learn the ins and outs of patterns and measurements and creating the right fit. i learned a considerable amount.

along with completing a few other projects, i managed to sew the dress and their linings before i we returned hoome, and luckily, my mother-in-law finished off the back of the dresses adding their button holes and buttons.

later this week i'll share some of my favorite beginner sewing books i have in my stash, and perhaps you can share yours!

{i decorate} indigo's lifestyle collection.

i recently visited our local indigo to pick up a few preschool prep items and little birthday gifts for my now 4 year old girl... i had a glance at their new lifestyle collections online, but it was wonderful to browse the sections in person, not to mention, browse them alone. :)

i've fallen in love with a few items from their study and home collections. i've already nabbed a cute pen cup for my office redo and added a few goodies to my list of wants.

i plan to design a photo grid on my main wall, 9 frames by 3 rows, and a mix of old black and whites and new family photos. it'd be amazing to choose a gorgeous frame like indigo's silver foil frame with a linen matting... unfort, i'll most likely be settling for ikea.

our newly renovated basement has a bit of an earthy feel, bursting with a mix of textures and a combination of materials. these throw pillows would be the perfect addition on our kramfors sofa paried with our new lumex coffee table from urban barn.

meet my new pen cup. it was love at first site. i love the black and white floral detail.

we're into owls. who isn't these days? these substantial gloss white owl bookends are definitely at the top of my list.

and, i've always got baby on the brain. indigo's online selection of baby gifts and goods is incredible. when i don't have time to whip up a baby gift, indigo is my go-to.

a fave of hazel's are these rainbow beads from manhattan toy. next to the winkel, it's hazel's favorite thing to play with.

admittely sophie's novelty has worn off. and since i have a late teether, i think i'll be picking up one of these new sophie teethers. it's much easier to grasp and maybe miss hazel will fall in love all over again.

the wheels are turning for nursery #3. i'm putting together my design board for the new nursery, and the girl's shared room. i've always loved the simplicity of petit collage's wooden mobiles. i'm wondering if one of these would be easy to DIY somehow? anyone out there tackle a project like this?

last but not least, a new friend in the downstairs playroom. we've ran with a woodland theme. birch trees on the wall, a 3sprouts racoon storage bin, owl art, and a family of stuffed owls.

i'm trying hard to be super productive with work and the last of our summer activities... but i often find myself organizing closets and cabinets, browsing sites for a roomy vehicle, double strollers, twin beds for the girls for their soon-to-be shared room, new nursery ideas...
and last but not least, baby names.

it'll be an h name. and very soon we'll find out the gender.
i have my bets on a boy because these first few months have been extremely tummy turning, different from my first two.

i love these recent studies on the baby name wizard blog. specifically the british baby names vs. american baby names article. a few of these names nearly make me want to stray away from sticking with h!

we have a list of faves.
i LOVE traditional names but our list is short!
at the top are...
{boy} hudson, holt, and hank (a family name).
{girl} haven (a new favorite), harper, and hattie.

and... our girls' names are hannah & hazel.

we've been busy making little additions to our home.
and finally filled our gigantic ODBY frames from ikea.
i fell in love with these frames.
they compliment the shape of our thilde coffee table from urban barn.
they are a gorgeous bright laquered white.
and their massive size makes a huge impact.

we filled them with 3 of our favorites from our recent family session with carlee of rumor has it photography. she editted the photos to give them more of a vintage feel to go along with our old camera collection.

i'll be sure to snap more photos of the entire room this week!

the summer seems to be blazing by. our home is always busy inside & out.

any sunshine we see, we soak it up.

and much to my hubs dismay, we've always got some sort of project ongoing.

this week we took in the spirit of the calgary stampede...

we picked strawberries at a local farm.

we painted trim for our newly carpeted basement.

i'm getting creative with new design jobs.

and we had an evening photo session with a new photog friend.

my girls are growing so quickly.

big H will soon be 4. she's a bit of a tomboy with an artistic flair. and never, ever runs out of energy. and little h is nearly 10 months. crawling everywhere, calls me mama, and finally cut her very first tooth.

and... our little family was blessed with surprising news this past month. another baby h is on the way early 2012! if i thought our home was busy now... we're in for it! we are elated.

the look on her face was priceless as she picked her first tiny little strawberry from our flower bed this morning. she wanted to make a smoothie out of it. i dream of next summer, when our yard is fenced, and we can grow a plethora of fresh goodies for her to pick and munch.

i also drew these quirky moustache cupcake toppers for our chocolate fudge cupcakes. the cupcakes disappeared faster than i could take a photo of them... but you'll get the idea :)

simply print, crop and glue the moustaches onto a wooden pick to poke into your cupcake. to go along with the moustaches, i also crafted colourful little triangle flag banner cupcake toppers to match the bunting banner on his framed father's day questionnaire. enjoy!

One of the things I love most about having this blog, are the connections I make with readers, local, or from afar. I've even been lucky enough to develop friendships with a few.

Carlee first commented on a post earlier this year. I LOVE comments. I wish I got more of them! {hint hint} In turn, I visited her adorable blog. Mom of 2 girls, close to my girls' ages, I made an instant virtual connection. She's a full time pharmacist that holds a thorough love for photography in her free time. And she's good. Real good.

Carlee's Calgary-based side biz, Rumor has it... Photo and Design, doesn't specialize in any one type of photograph - she's experienced with maternity, newborn, babies... to grads and families - you name it. Her fave product by far are her custom designed, printed baby announcements and holiday cards.

In the past few years in Autumn, Carlee has hosted mini session days for families to have a quick photoshoot for their holiday cards. She'll be announcing details of these mini sessions later this summer, so be sure to follow her blog! We're already penciled in!

inspired by this adorable all about dad father's day printable, hannah and i worked at creating our very own personalized questionnaire for her daddy. we went with a retro mustache theme... it's a ongoing prank around here with him shaving until he's left his 70's stache intact - i can't stand it! this was a fun craft to do with hannah and her answers are hilarious. i never knew he weighed 46 pounds, measured 10 feet tall and his favorite food was macaroni!

we framed the printable in an ikea ribba frame and topped it with a homemade bunting made from scrap paper and some baker's twine. we also crafted some cute cupcake toppers using the colourful paper for banners and some printable mustaches I'll be sharing with you this week!

we returned home a week ago and it's taken us awhile to get back into our groove!

we had a wonderful trip - we have good little travelers.

my babies sleep better when we're away than when we're home!

i'm refreshed and driven to dive into a new design endeavor and, of course, new projects around the home. already underway this week, our closet makeover, small updates to our family room, and my office is officially cleared out ready for paint & built ins!

but before i get back to our tornado of a closet, my things i love friday...

a new collection. along with a bounty of colorful updates to our family room, including these pillows, and a stack of new books, i've begun a charming collection of vintage cameras of all sorts.

take a peek at the whimsical numeric and abc posters from MiniEmpire on etsy - their beautiful prints would make perfectly unique gender-neutral nursery art.

these seats are sweet.

i've stocked up on all sorts of crazy popsicle molds for summer. today i whipped up a batch of fresh watermelon pops. i might have to invest in this tasty book for more cool treat ideas.

in my next spurt of baking ambition, these DIY cake sprinkles are on the list!

each holiday, my goal is to give my girls something handmade... either Etsy-bought or made by me. i hope that these special goodies will also serve as keepsakes.

this year, thanks to an easy-peasy and fabulous tutorial over at pink penguin, i crafted the girls their very own fabric Easter baskets. i started these baskets less than a week before Easter, so I simplified the design sans patchwork and also made the basket a wee bit larger.

i hope to add a fabric tag on the bottom with the year & with love from mom.

though hazel is too little to appreciate, hannah sure loved hers!

i'm in the midst of polishing off a volusion website customization

and then i may just try to stick to smaller scope projects

such as blog design, branding, and ad design for the summer months.

there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to invest in large projects nowadays

in between all of the tea parties, puddle jumping, and lego building!

cuddle up to one of these darling cloth dolls from my newest etsy fave, goodbyebluemonday. i'm inspired by the colours and mix of fabrics to create our own collection using this freebie pattern.

how lovely are these personalized patchwork sofas? each cushion is designed using several fabrics while the sofa frame is perfectly puzzled together.

i'm on the fence with adding drapes to our home, but if i were, these gorgeous mod paisley curtains are near the top of my list.

the designer geek in me is longing for a deck of these.

we splashed in puddles & mucked in mud this afternoon. Spring is here! gush over this fresh and fun Spring-y fabric collection. my fave? definitely the cheerful raindrops!

our menu for this next week includes a couple yums from this recipe blog. i'm always in search of new ideas. first up... chicken, bacon & avocado quesadillas.

it'd be so fun in a little boy's room with favorite vintage comic books.

i'd probably simplify it with a wooden embroidery hoop.

design seeds is my new fave blog. scroll through these impeccable color palettes derived from gorgeous photos of all sorts. it's a breath of fresh air.

i'm in love with these tiny tiny toms. mama's wanting a pair and i think babes need them too. my faves? the pink sparkles for h and silver sparkles H.

at the top of my to makes are these adorable DIY pouches for H's overflowing craft supplies. brilliant tutorial.

this colorful and creative art inspired birthday is beautiful. this would be the perfect theme for H once she begins elementary. i adore the rainbow vanilla cake balls served on paint palettes!

we've embarked on a new adventure.

hazel LOVES to eat. she gobbles up a bowl of rice cereal in the blink of an eye.

so i've started to make purees and feed her the good stuff!

here are a few new goodies i've discovered the 2nd time around...

Easter's on its way! Use up those scrap fabrics and craft an adorable bunny onesie, tee, or tote using this free template and easy peasy tutorial. You can call him Peter Buttontail...

The applique is fused onto a silky soft onesie for durability and machine stitched to reduce fraying of fabric edges. secure buttons, ribbons or ric rac for added detail!

the supplies.
onesie, tee, or tote {solid colors work best}
an assortment of scrap fabrics
heat n bond or wonder under
paper for pattern
sewing machine {handsew is an option}
iron
buttons, ribbons or ric rac {optional}

the how-to.

1. Fuse wonder under or heat n bond to wrong side of fabric using the directions on the product.

2. Print and cut out template.

3. Trace onto wrong side of fabric backed with heat n bond or wonder under and cut out.

4. Remove paper backing.

5. Place design on onesie, tee or tote and iron on.

6. Straight stitch or handsew a back stitch to completely secure applique to your onesie, tee, or tote and give it a finished look.

7. Embellish with buttons, ribbons or ric rac if desired.

but i thought i'd share this cozy recipe for

whole wheat chocolate chip buttermilk scones

homemade scones are a staple around here

simply because you can stuff anything in them, even bacon,

and they'll taste delish.

so here it goes...

3 C whole wheat flour
1/3 C brown sugar
2½ t baking powder
½ t baking soda
¾ t salt
1.5 sticks cold butter, cut into small cubes
1 C low-fat buttermilk
1 to 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.

Combine the flour + sugar + baking powder + baking soda + salt. Mix well.

Mix the flour and cold butter cubes with your hands until the mixture becomes crumbly.

Do not overmix.

Pour in the buttermilk in parts, mixing the dough with your hands after each addition. Continue to pour in the buttermilk until the mixture becomes doughy and soft.

Add chocolate chips and combine one last time.

Flour the rolling pin and work surface and start working and kneading the dough.

Roll dough out to 1/2 thick. Cut in triangles or with biscuit cutter.

{i prefer circles - they look like plump cookies}

Place on baking sheet. Brush with heavy cream or egg wash {optional} {i skip this}

Bake for about 12 mins or until the outside is golden and scones are firm to the touch.

Serve warm with buttah.

Yum.

ps. one of my fave foodie blogs just posted a recipe for banana nutella scones.

{we have to pass due to a nut allergy} but someone try it! it sounds delish!

colourful kisses originally blossomed back in 2007 after H was born. she had a head full of dark brunette hair which i loved to accessorize. i began to design and create felt flower clips, eventually sought by friends and family... then strangers whilst we were out and about. so, i started a little hobby biz, etsy shoppe, and participated in local craft fairs. after H was a year or so, I went back to designing from home fulltime... and colourful kisses was put on hiatus.

i'm so excited to dig into the spring issue of Sweet Paul. the design itself is enough to put me over the top - it's gorgeous! the spring read is a special kids issue full of tasty recipes, tempting photography, product sneak-peeks, and wonderful DIY and craft projects. paul lowe of sweet paul is brilliant. the past issues were incredible but after a quick glance at this particular edition, it's above and beyond! i hope you enjoy this weekend read!

i picked up this set of ramona paperbacks by beverly clearly for H. these were my fave reads when i was little. i'm excited for her to dig into them when she's older... but for now, i think i'll sink into them and knock another item on my 32 before 32 list.

{DIY} basement renos.

as i mentioned in a couple past posts, we're finishing our basement.

we're on a strict budget. and we're doing 75% of the work ourselves.

my husband is a champ.

he'll be the first to admit that he is inexperienced when it comes to this sort of thing.

however, with hours of the DIY channel, a ton of research, and an incredible amount of patience... it's progressing quickly!

we'll have a large storage room.

a cozy full bathroom. a large guest room with double closet.

a media room. and a playroom.

we're plumbed!

the wiring is nearly complete!

and drywall is scheduled in for this weekend...

then my fun begins!

since we're amateurs at such a massive project...

i thought i'd share some tips that we've learned along the way.

design and develop a strict budget. and stick to it.
if you have work to outsource, gather plenty of quotes and do your research to learn what's reasonable. our plumbing quote went from $800 down to $200 plus parts!
shop around. ask about future sales. we've managed to hit a sale each week at our local home reno stores... doors, shower, lighting.
purge. we've reached over $1000 in selling random items and furniture we do not need.
have faith in your husband. i had my doubts before this all started. i am quite proud at how good, accurate, and patient he is with this sort of thing.
i'm terrified of big saws.
visit DIY network's website. in one evening, you can learn a whole lot!

i'll be sure to share some photos after this weekend's work bee...

smidgebox is a cute little handmade biz out of vancouver. lesley's etsy shoppe is filled with adorable blankets, fabric buckets and totes. newest to her shoppe are these custom easter buckets, perfect for those easter egg hunts in the park... or for the generous easter bunny to fill with all sorts of goodies. i especially love the canvas fabrics lesley uses in her designs... and that the buckets are customizable with your choice of fabric and your little one's initial! i think these buckets could be used year-round as well. i may have to order a set for my girlies!

here they are! our heart-shaped crayons turned out wonderfully. we landed up using silicon baking pans {from dollarama!} - the hearts were thick, better for little hands.

i have to mention that my 3 year old patiently peeled the wrappers off each crayon and broke them into pieces. this is a great project to do with your kiddos!

you can make these crayons in any shape... just follow this easy-peasy tutorial and use a pan of your choice!

we mounted our heart crayons on a cute "you colour me happy." card using glue dots {they stuck fairly well}. a free printable for you! the design is versatile - use it for valentines day, school parties, or birthday treat bags. as an added touch, mount your card onto solid coloured cardstock. enjoy!

call me crazy but i've already begun to compile a list and collect goodies for big H and little h's 4th and 1st birthdays this year. i adore sweet lulu's party supplies. everything from the classic striped paper straws to the polka dot balloons.

i have a collection of adorable vintage hankies that i've been toting from home to home. i was waiting for the perfect project... and i think i may have found it here.

i stumbled upon these two darling DIY headboard ideas this week...

the "love" headboard is made of salvaged fence boards from their grandmother's farm. they've incorporated some fab rustic elements partnered with simplistic modern pieces & accents.

and the DIY chalkboard headboard would look oh so cute in a little one's bedroom.

i'm definitely keeping this idea bookmarked!

i brightened up our family room with an easy peasy DIY heart garland for v-day... crafted from some leftover amy butler paper {of course}. i simply cut out hearts, hole punched, and strung onto cute pink ric rac.

my daughter loves to craft. her craft caddy in our entrance closet is my savior most days. i'll find her in her playroom, supplies strewn about, making cards, pictures, and presents for everyone. above is her improvement on my garland... we have these little notes taped up everywhere around our home. they drive me bonkers but they're too cute to remove!

{printables} valentine's treat bag toppers.

i may be going a little overboard with hannah's little valentine's preschool party... but, well, it's what i do. yesterday H and i crafted these little treat bags holding 3 purple wrapped chocolate hearts for her classmates. she helped with the counting, sorting, stuffing and stapling.

i had a stack of goodie bags left over from her 2nd birthday sitting in my pantry - you can purchase these at your local craft store in the cake decorating and candy making section. the toppers measure approximately 4.25 depending on your cuts, so purchase a bag that is close to this width.

the how-to.

1. download & print your treat bag toppers. each page prints four toppers.
2. cut & trim the toppers equally and fold in half
i've left space to sign your little one's name under the heart design
3. stuff your treat bags with goodies
4. fold the top of your treat bag. sandwich the bag in between your treat bag topper.
5. staple shut with one or two staples.

i've designed the treat bag toppers in a pink mix and blue mix, perfect for girls and boys, or even your neighbor!

i've neglected to post photos of one of my favorite additions to our home.

most know i have a mild obsession with all things amy butler.

so when i spotted her collection of wallpaper on graham & brown.

it was love at first sight.

our master bedroom was transformed with memento in midnight.
