{i craft} DIY Advent calendar.

a day late but our new Advent Calendar was hung late last night!

i fell in love with the handmade simplicity of the Advent calendars on Rambling Renovators and Linday's blog using the little cotton drawstring bags. i adore both of these custom creations using stamps and iron on transfer paper.

my itty bitty 4x6 drawstring bags are from the penny paper co. 10 for $5 you can't go wrong! they're perfect for little goodies. i picked up a pack of iron on transfer paper from Michaels and designed a set of grey numbers in Illustrator and printed them on my ink jet {remember when you're printing text or numbers, you have to print the characters backwards!} i trimmed each number and ironed them on each bag.

our Advent bags are filled with a set of tiny wooden ornaments passed down from my mom for the girls to hang on their own little tree in their playroom. and nearly each bag has a fun holiday activity. i was excited to discover a cute debbie travis pom pom garland at Canadian Tire for $3.99 - perfect for hanging each bag and keeping them in place.

And here's how it looks...

do you have a handmade Advent Calendar to share?

ps. make a set of bags for next year using Linday's colourful number printable
or this set from Oh Happy Day!

Sarah, I LOVE it. That is my project today: I'm a day late also, but I need to dig out our advent calendar. I have an old vintage felt calendar that was in my childhood home. My grandma made it, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. This year I'm adding an activity card to each pocket so we will do some fun Christmas activity each night: watch Elf, make hot cocoa, drive to see Christmas lights, etc... I working on it now! PS- I would love a picture of your finished Billy bookcase project. It looks lovely from this glimpse!

sounds beautiful erin! we have similar activities in ours as well!

my billy bookcase project is 75% complete. i just need to wrangle my hubs into finishing off the end caps and installing the crown moulding. nearly every room in our house has a project going on right now. hopefully soon my office will be complete! i'll be sure to post photos once it is!

I used Lindsay's advent numbers, but I like yours a lot too! I put our out this morning, so the kids were thrilled they got to open three bags today. I filled them with small ornaments, candy, mini donuts, etc. Next year I may just do ornaments 'cause that would be so much simpler.
You always do everything with such style!

And are you putting glass doors on your Billy bookcases? I want to see!!!

mini donuts! what a great idea - H would love that too! Next year I think I might get a little more creative with the filler now that I'm completely happy with the calendar...

the doors on my billy bookcases are half glass half panel. perfect for displaying my goodies and hiding the not-so-pretty office papers and such. after i get hubs to finish them off with end caps and moulding - I'll be sure to blog!
