{oh baby} the name game.

i'm trying hard to be super productive with work and the last of our summer activities... but i often find myself organizing closets and cabinets, browsing sites for a roomy vehicle, double strollers, twin beds for the girls for their soon-to-be shared room, new nursery ideas...
and last but not least, baby names.

it'll be an h name. and very soon we'll find out the gender.
i have my bets on a boy because these first few months have been extremely tummy turning, different from my first two.

i love these recent studies on the baby name wizard blog. specifically the british baby names vs. american baby names article. a few of these names nearly make me want to stray away from sticking with h!

we have a list of faves.
i LOVE traditional names but our list is short!
at the top are...
{boy} hudson, holt, and hank (a family name).
{girl} haven (a new favorite), harper, and hattie.

and... our girls' names are hannah & hazel.

and though we're nearly decided, i thought maybe this post would stir up some comments about what YOUR favorite H names are!

our little guy is four months old and his name is Hunter. it was on our list of faves before he was born, but as soon as we saw him we knew it was the name for him. we get so many compliments on his name. my husband is actually a hunter (which is NOT why we chose the name), it's just a name i've always loved. and then when i was pregnant we watched the movie Patch Adams and his "real" name is Hunter and i thought that he's a pretty cool dude named Hunter so why not!!!

I love Harper, but it's become super popular this last little while so not as original as Hattie and Hadley {our "H" baby girl name was Haven, but we're having a boy}. I'm definiely a fan of Hudson and Hank!!

saigewisdom: my sister-in-law JUST texted me the name "haven" earlier this evening. i'm in love with it! i wasn't entirely happy with our girl names list yet and now, i'm in love!

We had Hamish picked for a boy (we had a girl). No Scottish heritage in the family, we just loved the name!

Oh I hope you have a little girl and name her HAVEN!! I think it's so beautiful and unique, but not too out there that people will have difficulty spelling or pronouncing it. Thanks for letting us be part of your baby naming process ;)

I like Henry! I like the idea of a little Henry visiting Paris and everyone calling him 'ON-REE'

We are having a super hard time coming up with a boys name for baby boy #2...we like all the same names as two years ago, but the list was all rejected in favor of the name we eventually picked...so they don't quite seem right this time around...does that make sense?

All the names you have on the short list are darling!!!

Just named my #2 baby Hannah, and I still smile every time I say it out loud. I know a few other people with the name but I don't care, it's my girl's name to me! It's simple, sweet, classic, sweet and lovely.

Good luck with your H name decision and congrats!

Thanks so much for all of the comments everyone!

Our girls' names are Hannah & Hazel. I love that they're traditional, classic names, though they're quite popular :)

Alice was always going to be our little girls first name but I just love Hazel. Maybe for our second :)
I met a little girl a couple of month ago named Halia (Hal.ee.a), she was really sweet and it has kind of stuck with me! I also really like Holly!
For you boys I a rooting for Hank. How cute is that!!!

Alice and Hazel are so cute together. I have an aunt alice so we were planning to use it for a middle name somewhere along the way!

Halia is adorable too!

Hank is definitely a front-runner!

and Hollie is my mother-in-law's name! :)

I love H boy names like Henry, Hunter & Hudson. LOVE Hank - I really hope you use that one if you have a boy!

Haven is really pretty - is that Jessica Alba's newest bundle's name?

I totally hear you on the internet pulling you away from being productive. I have an addiction to facebook and pinterest....and blogs and seem to wile away an hour without ever writing a blog post, email or doing anything worthwhile sometimes!

I'm so not with it. I had to google it. Apparently it is! Honor and Haven.

I am in love with it. It's a winner for us!

Our daughter's name is Heidi. I love the book, I love that it's traditional but uncommon. People LOVE it. They always say, "Heidi?!" with a smile when I tell them her name, as if no one would have thought to actually use the name. :) But I don't have a thing for H names; we just happened to agree on it. If I'd had my way, her name would have been Imogen ("Immy"), but I lost that battle. LOL. Harper is ADORABLE, as is Harlowe (another fave of mine), but both are extremely popular. Same with Henry and Hank.

My baby naming prerequisite was basically to diminish the chance of our kids having to have their last initial tacked onto their name (like I always did!) just because there is more than one kid with their name in their class. I hated that as a kid.

Thanks Meg! Your comment made me laugh aloud. I was always "Sarah with an H" or "Sarah Y." in school growing up. There just so happened to be another one in our small town class of 20!

Heidi is adorable too!

Well I'm pretty partial to Harper, that's what we named our little girl! It is becoming very popular, but who cares! LOVE all of your name choices, especially Hudson!

Love the name "Harper" and think it would sound equally as fine for a darling boy or girl!!!

Grant and I had a very hard time naming our boys; however, we agreed early on that we would name a girl Harper. We share a favorite book: To Kill a Mockingbird, and Harper Lee is the author. Anyway, that was 20 years ago and no girl here. I have noticed it's become quite popular (and the fact the Beckhams used it is a bit turn-offish to me), but I still love it! I love that Haven is on your list. What a beautiful name! I seem to relate everything to books, and I have another favorite written by the author Haven Kimmel. How fun! We loved the name Henry too! I think a third boy, had we had one, would have been William Henry! So fun. It will be exciting to see what you choose!
